AND FUTURE OF HERITAGE

AP FHF operates as a multidisciplinary laboratory, encouraging dialogue and experimentation across fields. Its activities cover research projects, international collaborations, consultancies for institutions and policymakers, publications, and curated events.

Rooted in Valletta — a UNESCO World Heritage city, where AP Valletta has delivered some of the country’s most significant cultural projects — AP FHF combines local expertise with international relevance. It is a bridge
between academia, professional practice, and civic engagement, building partnerships that explore how design and research can shape both built and
unbuilt environments.

WHAT IS THE

HERITAGE OF THE FUTURE?

The Foundation's mission is to redefine heritage as a forward-looking resource, moving beyond its traditional nostalgic definitions to fit into a wider narrative of pressing urban challenges. This means finding out the role heritage plays within a context of climate change, rapid densification, and evolving cultural identity. To look deeper into the role of heritage, the Foundation calls on the insight of wide-reaching voices – from different geographies and disciplines – to answer the question: what is the heritage of the future?

AP FHF operates as a multidisciplinary laboratory – a place where answers to this big question come through dialogue and experimentation across fields. In practice, this means the staging of activities including travelling research projects, international collaborations, consultancies for institutions and policymakers, publications, and curated events.
